How Reviews Work

How Reviews Work

Reviews are one of the most important ways trust is built on Housesit.
We’ve designed our review system to be fair, thoughtful, and human — because caring for a home deserves more than rushed or rigid feedback.

This page explains how reviews work and what you can expect.

Our philosophy

House sitting relies on trust, care, and responsibility.
Reviews should reflect that.

We believe reviews are most useful when people have time to reflect, provide context, and update their feedback if needed. That’s why our review system is designed to support honesty and fairness — not pressure or punishment.

When reviews can be written

  • Reviews can be written any time after a house sit ends
  • There is no hard deadline to leave a review
  • If a review is written long after a sit, a small note may appear indicating timing for context

We prioritize accuracy over speed.

Mutual and independent reviews

Homeowners and house sitters write reviews independently.

Reviews are published:

  • when both parties have submitted, or
  • after a 14-day grace period if only one review is submitted

This allows time for reflection while ensuring reviews are not delayed indefinitely.

If only one party submits a review

If only one party writes a review, it will still be published.

  • After the first review is submitted, the other party has 14 days to write their own review
  • If a second review is not submitted within that time, the existing review is published automatically

Silence does not block transparency, and reviews are never held hostage.

Editing reviews

Reviews on Housesit can be edited after posting.

  • Edited reviews display a clear “Edited on [date]” label
  • Previous versions are kept internally for moderation purposes

People often remember details later, and reflection improves fairness.
Allowing edits helps reviews stay accurate over time.

Public reviews and private feedback

Each review includes two parts:

Public review

  • Appears on profiles
  • Helps others make informed decisions
  • Should be factual, respectful, and balanced

Private feedback (optional)

  • Shared only with the other person
  • Not public
  • Not reputation-affecting

Private feedback is encouraged for constructive or sensitive comments that don’t need to be shared publicly.

Review structure

To help keep reviews useful and consistent, we guide reviewers with prompts such as:

  • Communication
  • Care of the home and pets
  • Reliability
  • Overall experience
  • Whether you would host or sit again

Free-text comments are optional and encouraged when helpful.

Moderation and curation

Housesit is a curated community. To help maintain fairness and clarity, we may:

  • Review flagged or unclear feedback
  • Ask for clarification or revision
  • Step in when context is missing or emotions are running high

Our goal is to support honest, respectful reviews — not to punish or escalate conflict.

What reviews are not for

Reviews should not be used to:

  • Resolve disputes (we offer separate support for that)
  • Punish someone for a mismatch in expectations
  • Vent emotionally without context

When issues arise, we encourage direct communication or contacting support.

Our promise

Reviews on Housesit are living trust signals — not permanent judgments.

We design our review system to support:

  • honesty
  • reflection
  • responsibility
  • respect for what “home” truly means

In short

We give people time to reflect, space to be honest, and structure to be fair.
